Bandol vineyard: Since the age of Antiquity, the Phoenician navy from Byblos, Sidon and Tyr used to visit our region to refuel their wine stock. Their enthusiasm was later testified by numerous ancient texts and artifacts found mostly in the Greco-roman antic colony of Tauroentum where the ruins are located around St-Cyr Sur-Mer. (Ancient Cadierenne territory)
People from Bandol have learned throughout the centuries to build a vineyard with bravery and talent; this is reflected in the pebbly terraces otherwise known as “restanques” which retain the soil on the hillside slopes.
Under the reign of Louis XIV, the Bandol soil saw its fame growing and was used for the court of France. It was even protected when Louis XV wanted to prohibit the planting of vines |
